Portraits: Breaking the Cycle

Below are scenes from life and school in Vijayawada and nearby A Konduru, India. In rural villages like A Konduru, most children attend poorly run, over-crowded government schools that promise little hope of a quality education. In addition to that, most parents will pull their kids out of school as soon as they are old enough to join them as day laborers in the fields or brick factories. It’s a cycle that keeps most families in the same economic situation generation after generation.
